iPhone 11 Teardown: Complete Disassembly Guide

In this teardown, we'll completely disassemble the device, taking a closer look at the display, logic board, battery, cameras, wireless charging coil, speakers and other key components. If you're planning a repair or you're simply curious about what's inside, this guide walks through the entire process step by step.

🔥 Step 1: Heat and Remove the Display

Begin by powering the phone off and removing the two Pentalobe screws next to the charging port.

Using a PolarTech Magic Self-Heating Pad, heat the display for around ten minutes to soften the adhesive. Since the iPhone 11 opens from the display side, use a suction cup and a thin metal opening tool to create a small gap before inserting a plastic pick.

Carefully slide the pick around the edges to separate the display adhesive. If the glue becomes stubborn, applying a small amount of isopropyl alcohol can make the job much easier.

When opening the display, remember that the flex cables are attached on one side, so lift the screen slowly to avoid damaging them.

🔧 Step 2: Remove the Internal Components

Before removing any other components, disconnect the battery connector to prevent accidental short circuits.

Next, remove the display assembly by disconnecting the display flex cables.

Continue by removing the earpiece speaker assembly before moving on to the main logic board.

Disconnect all BTB connectors, remove the standoff and Phillips screws, take out the SIM card tray, and carefully lift the logic board free.

Some connectors and brackets are lightly secured with adhesive, so take your time and avoid forcing anything. A little patience now can save an expensive repair later.

🔋 Step 3: Remove the Battery

With the logic board removed, attention shifts to the battery.

The iPhone 11 uses stretch-release adhesive strips underneath the battery. Pull each strip slowly and evenly while keeping it as flat as possible. When everything goes perfectly, the battery lifts out with very little effort.

When everything doesn't go perfectly... well, welcome to phone repair.

If one or more adhesive strips break, carefully apply a small amount of isopropyl alcohol around the battery and gently work it free using a plastic pry tool. Never use excessive force or metal tools directly against the battery.

Once removed, you'll also gain access to the wireless charging coil and additional internal components.

⚙️ Step 4: Remove the Remaining Components and Complete the Teardown

Continue by removing the loudspeaker, Taptic Engine, charging flex assembly, wireless charging coil and the Wi-Fi/Bluetooth antenna module.

Several Phillips and standoff screws secure these parts, so keeping your screws organised throughout the repair will make reassembly much easier.

With every component removed, the iPhone 11's internal layout becomes fully visible. Apple designed this model with a relatively modular structure, making many common repairs—including screen, battery and charging component replacements—more straightforward than on some newer devices.

Final Thoughts

Even years after its release, the iPhone 11 remains one of the most practical iPhones to repair. While the battery adhesive can occasionally test your patience, the overall internal layout is clean, logical and well organised.

Whether you're replacing a damaged screen, installing a new battery or simply exploring Apple's engineering, the iPhone 11 offers an excellent balance between durability and repairability.

Thanks for reading, and we hope this teardown helps with your next repair project.
